New Sheriff in Town?

Recently, I’ve noticed something which I hope will continue and grow: removing cars which are illegally parked.

The first time I saw it, I didn’t even know what it was. I saw an “evacuation” truck, basically a flat-bed truck with a crane and fittings to pick up a car and take it away. But, I didn’t see any accident. Then, I noticed there were about 10-15 such trucks. The whole scene suddenly came into focus: several policemen, all these trucks, cars parked in front of, in this case, Atrium with clearly painted “Don’t Park Here” markings on the road and signs overhead. My heart actually flipped: is the Moscow Traffic Department actually dealing with the causes of traffic jams?

I can only hope.

Moreover, have you seen the signs that have been appearing (or maybe I just noticed them?) on major roads?

  • “If you’ve been drinking, don’t get behind the wheel”
  • “Make way for ambulances, police, fire department vehicles”
  • “Stop for pedestrians in the crosswalk”
  • etc.

It really looks like someone is taking charge and addressing the horrendous traffic issue. It’s going to take a while, I know, but you have to start somewhere and sometime.

No time like the present.
